A Michigan woman was found stabbed to death along with her 14-year-old daughter in Van Buren Township on July 25, according to Click On Detroit.
Forty-five-year-old Yachanda Snipes and her 14-year-old daughter, Dacara Leatherberry, were found dead inside their apartment at the Belleville Pointe Apartments on Lake Villa Drive. Family members became concerned after they had no communication with Snipes for several days. The neighbors told the police that they hadn’t seen the mother and daughter since Thursday, July 23.
A cousin found the two bodies in the apartment while conducting a wellness check and yelled for the neighbors to call the police. Snipes’ neighbor Isiah Stevens told reporters what he saw.
“He started banging on doors and asking for people to call 911,” Stevens said.“The door was unlocked when the cousin walked in and he saw them. He said he turned the corner and saw the lady. The girl was in the back somewhere.”
Leatherberry was found in a room near the back of the apartment. Her mother was found in the kitchen. Both had multiple stab wounds.
A 47-year-old man described as Snipes’ ex-boyfriend was arrested for the two deaths in Pontiac. His name has not yet been released, but the suspect is on parole and has an electronic tether. The police have transferred the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for prosecution.
Dacara’s uncle said that the man killed Dacara first so that her mother had to watch her being stabbed to death. Her family said that Snipes didn’t know that the man was on parole and recently stopped dating him. He allegedly broke into the apartment armed with a knife and killed Snipes and her young daughter.
“Evidently, he did what he did to my niece, and she had to see it and he had to give it to her is well. My family is hurting, and ugh, I feel like he should hurt. In the most serious way.
