A white woman flashed her identification at a Black man in a grocery store self-checkout line after noting he was eating his gummy bears before he rang up his order.
ID Karen was several people behind the man in line and commented, which prompted him to begin recording the exchange. He can be heard on the video asking her why she was angry as he started ringing up his order and hilariously offered her a gummy bear.
When the man sarcastically asked who made her security at the grocery store, she whipped out her wallet and flashed some type of identification at the man.
“You don’t see me paying for my stuff?” he said. “Who made you security? Out here, confronting us? You don’t see me paying for my stuff?”
“That’s who made me security,” she scornfully replied with ID in hand.
The man, whose TikTok name is BlackMagic, later posted the video on the platform. He said the woman did a “checkmate” on him.
“That time a Karen did a checkmate on me 😂😂😂😂😂 #fyp #fypシ #funny.”

TikTok users wondered what kind of ID the woman had because it didn’t look like a security badge. One user joked that it was her AARP card. Another user joked that she pulled out the Karen card.
Incidentally, the man did nothing wrong as the items he ate were a fixed price, not priced by weight and, most importantly, paid for, according to FindLaw.
“You need to have committed the act of taking the item and have the intention of evading the checkout counter in order to be found guilty of shoplifting, according to the law. The outlet also clarifies that ‘shopkeepers generally have discretion’ when detaining a shopper who they suspect to be shoplifting. Something sold at a fixed price may be more acceptable to eat.”
Stay in your lane, Karen.
