In a viral TikTok video, Marine Master Seargent Michael Fisher performs the first salute to his son, who is now ranked as a junior commissioned officer in the military. Fisher touchingly explains how proud he is of his son’s accomplishments and even choked up at one moment.
Boasting nearly 6 million views, the video uploaded by Fisher was captioned, “Rendering my son his 1st Salute!” and started with the pair facing each other in their respective military uniforms. “I’ve watched you grow, and mature, and become the man that you are today,” he began.

“You have always been respectful by saying, ‘Yes, sir. No sir. Yes ma’am and no ma’am.’” Then, the proud father started to hold back tears as he continued the welcome, “It is a privilege to render you your first salute.”
Fisher slowly raised his arm to salute his son, continuing through a choked-up voice, “But it is a greater honor to say congratulations, sir, for your commissioning.” His son returned the respect by ceremoniously saluting his father back.

Fisher later uploaded the second half of the video to his TikTok, showing the two engaging in a handshake and a long embrace. “Ladies and gentlemen: my son, Second Lieutenant Fisher… He made my job as a father easier,” Fisher boasted while addressing the ceremony’s guests. The father and son duo then got emotional as Fisher said, “He made me look good.”
Social media chimed in to let the pair know they aren’t the only ones shedding tears. One person tweeted about the father-son salute, joking, “Always good to flush out those tear ducts once in a while, isn’t it?”
Another user wrote, “Young man was holding back the tears better than I could.”
We wish Second Lieutenant Fisher the best in his new role.
