Former NFL star Zac Stacy told police that he was set up to beat up Stacy Evans, his now ex-girlfriend and mother of his 5-month-old child, in Orlando, Fla. As Newsonyx reported in November, a video of Stacy throwing Evans into a television set and hitting her on Nov. 13 led to his arrest.

Police arrived minutes after Evans called them, but Stacy had already left the premises. He was later arrested at the Orlando Airport. The new video footage shows Stacy claiming that Evans had provoked him to attack her.

Stacy also alleged that Evans knew he’d recently been released from a facility for anxiety and depression. He also claimed that Evans was bitter because he no longer wanted to have a relationship with her. The former New York Jets running back also accused her of having an affair with his attorney.

“It’s unfortunate because I just got out of rehab for anxiety and depression like eight months ago. I dropped everything to come down here and support the mother of my child in her last trimester, and the baby,” he said. “I let her know I wasn’t trying to be with her or nothing like that. This is a case of just bitterness. That’s why she did this. The whole assault thing. She staged it. She set me up.”

Stacy told the authorities Evans was unstable and had postpartum depression. He also said that she was trying to get a reaction from him and money.

“I don’t know what man, how any man could have handled that situation,” he added.

Evans responded to the video of Stacy blaming her for the attack and called him a typical abuser.

“I don’t know how you can stage getting your ass beat on multiple occasions” said Evans. “This is what abusers do. They will make you seem like you’re the crazy one and that they’re the victim.”

After the Nov. 13 attack, Evans filed a restraining order against Stacy. She noted that he had repeatedly punched her near their then 4-month-old child as she begged him to stop.

“He punched me several times in the head!” she said. “I begged him to stop because the baby was on the couch just a few feet from where he punched me. He then picked me up and threw me into my TV. The TV began to fall, and he turned to make sure I wasn’t getting up. As I laid on the floor, he began to yell at me, telling me I’m destructive. He then picked me up off the floor and off my feet and body-slammed me into our son’s bouncy seat.”

The 30-year-old, who also played for the St. Louis Rams, was arrested and charged with felony counts of aggravated battery and criminal mischief. He is currently out on bond.
