Christopher McCall was following his daily route as a New York City UPS driver when he witnessed a Black teen being beaten and robbed of his Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. Rushing to the victim to check if he was okay, the delivery driver helped alert authorities and an ambulance for the teen, who had difficulty breathing following the brutal assault.
Surveillance footage captured the May 14 crime, which occurred in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. According to CBS New York, two suspects dressed in all-black
chased the teenage victim down and began punching and kicking him. The pair then made off with his sneakers.CBS New York reported that the unnamed teen began losing consciousness as McCall approached him to help. Speaking on how he berated the thieving duo, McCall told the news outlet, “I yelled back, ‘Really? That’s all you want? You wanted his sneakers?’”
The 17-year-old informed the UPS driver that he had diabetes and was having trouble breathing following the robbery. McCall then used one of his UPS packages to prop the young man’s head up, hoping that he could get more air, CBS New York reported.
“And I was like, just stay there, just stay there, we’re gonna call an ambulance, and I was telling everybody, ‘Somebody please call an ambulance,’ he told CBS New York about reassuring the teenage victim.

New York City police officers arrested and charged the suspects the following day. According to CBS New York, the two were also under 18 and currently face charges for robbery and possession of stolen property.
On why he decided to intervene, McCall told the news outlet, “He was a nice-looking young man. And that was just like, yeah, he could have been dead. There was no stopping. It just looked like they just didn’t have no remorse or regard for life. They would have finished him over some sneakers.”
A hero in his own right, McCall refused to watch senseless violence without stepping in and doing something about it. We love to see it!
