On October 3, 22-year-old Buk Mawut Buk was arrested and charged for the University of Utah shooting which claimed the life of football star Aaron Lowe.
According to Fox 13, Buk was arrested and charged with three first-degree felonies: aggravated murder, attempted murder, and felony discharge of a firearm, as well as violating parole or probation.
“This was a shooting that should have never happened,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown. “We have some answers today. I know there are still so many other questions that people want answers to.”
Buk is also being accused of shooting an unidentified 20-year-old woman who remains in the hospital in critical condition.
According to a probable cause statement, Buk allegedly shot a few bullets at the victims, and once they were injured and on the ground, he walked over to them and opened fire five or six more times at the victims.
The young woman who survived told investigators that Buk attempted to “finish them off.”

Chief Brown thanked and accredited the public for helping lead investigators to find the suspect.
“To those who submitted tips, photos and videos, thank you,” Brown said. “Because of your actions, your tips, and the unrelenting pursuit of justice from our detectives, we have arrested the person accused of murdering Aaron Lowe.”
Besides this incident, Buk has a criminal history which includes a guilty plea to a robbery charge, and he has also served time for providing false information to law enforcement.
Buk is currently being held at the Salt Lake County Jail without bail.
As previously reported, Lowe, a well-known football player at the University of Utah, was shot dead at a house party on September 26 in the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street in Sugar House.
