“The Avan family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of condolences since the unexpected death of our mother,” the family wrote.
“The funeral service will occur on Friday, August 27 at 11 a.m. at Faithful Central Bible Church–The Living Room, 400 W. Florence Ave., Inglewood, CA, 90301. There will be a balloon release immediately following the service in front of the church.”
The funeral service, which her family called a “Celebration of Life,” was streamed on YouTube that same day to accommodate her friends across the country.
Avan’s family wrote, “A light has also been shined on intimate partner violence. It can happen to anyone, even those that are successful and empowered in every other area of their lives except their relationships. Michelle’s death will hopefully help others remove themselves from unhealthy and unsafe circumstances.”
As previously reported, Avan was found dead, suffering from trauma to her face and body in her Reseda, California home on August 5.
She was the senior vice president at Bank of America and head of global women’s and under-represented talent strategy in global human resources.
The late banker’s family hopes that District Attorney George Gascón will file a special circumstances murder charge against Turner so that his punishment may be harsher if he is convicted.
Avan’s son, Trevon, said, “My mom didn’t deserve this, and nobody deserves this. And we want to make sure that if anybody has to go through this, that George Gascón does the right thing and files the murder with special circumstances, giving Anthony Turner life without parole.”
According to KTLA, police arrested Anthony Duwayne Turner, her boyfriend and colleague, for her murder the following day.
Turner has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to return to court.
