University Of Florida (UF) has withdrawn its scholarship offer to QB recruit Marcus Stokes after he posted a video of himself rapping the n-word.
According to CBS, UF withdrew the scholarship offer after Marcus posted a video of himself rapping the words “welcome back n***a” earlier in November. In the now-deleted clip, he can be seen singing along to the lyrics while cruising in a vehicle with the caption, “Jdot got me sum type way fr.”
“Florida Gators QB recruit Marcus Stokes with some choice words. He’s Caucasian,” Twitter user @CFBLIVE247, who got ahold of Marcus’ video before it was erased, said on Nov. 18.
The QB recruit, who played for Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, committed to playing football for the UF Gators in July. Shortly after the school pulled its scholarship offer, he posted an apology statement to his Twitter account. In it, he claimed that he was apologetic for saying the n-word so boldly and uploading it to his social media account.
“I was in my car listening to rap music, rapping along to the words and posted a video of it on social media. I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say,” he wrote.
Marcus added that he respected UF’s decision.
“It was hurtful and offensive to many people, and I regret that. I fully accept the consequences for my actions, and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football,” he claimed.
According to 247 Sports, the high school football player is reportedly rated as a four-star recruit. Earlier in the recruiting process, he had been devoted to playing for Penn State before changing his mind and choosing the UF Gators instead.
