The parents of two Black children have filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against their Texas elementary school.
The parents filed the lawsuit against North Pointe Elementary school in the Clear Creek Independent School District in Texas, claiming school officials have ignored the bullying and abuse of the two students.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the lawsuit stated, “The school turned a blind eye to harassment and physical attacks of these children to the point that their inaction is a violation of the law. Moreover, the school[’]s failure created a hostile environment.”
Chanda Jackson and Tatiawana Jackson shared the treatment of their children in the lawsuit, which referred to them as Jane and John Doe.
The lawsuit said one child was attacked by other students, including being choked, punched in the eye and tripped. It also said the student was punished by a teacher who refused to let the child use the restroom, causing the child to consistently wet their pants.
The lawsuit says the other child was bullied, slapped, and bit by a student, causing hearing loss and needing stitches.

Leila Sarmecanic, general counsel for the Texas school district, told NBC News, “We were really blindsided by the allegations because they’re not substantiated by any evidence we have. We don’t discriminate against students on the basis of their race.”
“We have gone back through nurses’ records and discipline records, and we have not found anything to support the allegations in the lawsuit,” she added.
Although the allegations may be just that, there have been too many incidences of discrimination in schools to overlook this one.
