Over the weekend, officers from the Killeen Police Department arrested and identified the person allegedly responsible for the death of Yolanda N’Gaojia. The Texas mother was shot and killed while visiting her son’s gravesite on his birthday in March.
In a press release, police announced that Christian Lamar Weston, 17, was arranged and charged with murder after the Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case. They ordered the teen to be held without bond. Officials arraigned Weston on an unrelated charge for carrying an unlicensed weapon with a bond set at $5,000.
NewsOnyx reported that the incident happened on March 22 around 5 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church Garden of Memories Cemetery in the 13000 Block of State Highway 195. The 52-year-old mother was visiting her son’s grave when Weston fatally shot her at the gravesite. She was pronounced dead less than two hours after rescuers arrived at the scene. Another victim sustained non-threatening injuries and was released at the scene after getting checked out by emergency personnel.
According to NBC News, officials said Weston “specifically” shot at the people “who were there visiting a gravesite.”
Weston’s murder charge is classified as a first-degree felony.
Since the accident, Killeen police have been informing the public with updates on the matter. They reported that a 52-year-old female was shot and killed the same day she was killed but didn’t give a name. They claimed the incident happened around 5:03 p.m., and she was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.
Two days later, they identified the deceased victim.
Police still don’t have any more information on the matter, like Weston’s motives or if he knew his victims. But for right now, Weston remains in custody.
Yolanda’s ex-husband, Kineh N’Gaojia, alleged that their kids were on FaceTime with their mom when she was at the cemetery and had to watch Weston gun down their mom.
