Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick recently tested positive for COVID-19, and although he’s reportedly received a negative test result since many on social media are dragging the politician over past comments he made about the Black community and COVID-19 vaccinations.
According to the Texas Tribune, he claimed in a tweet last November that he had been vaccinated and suggested that other people “do their own research.”
While featured on The Ingraham Angle in August 2021, the governor was asked by host Laura Ingraham to address concerns about rising COVID-19 cases in his state. In a viral video posted to Twitter, Patrick stated at the time, “The COVID is spreading, particularly most of the numbers are with the unvaccinated.”

“And the Democrats like to blame Republicans on that. Well, the biggest group in most states are African-Americans who have not been vaccinated. And the last time I checked, over 90% of them vote for Democrats in their major cities and major counties,” he continued. “They’re doing nothing for the African-American community that has a significant high number of unvaccinated people.”
After facing backlash online, Patrick doubled down on his comments in a Facebook post, saying, “Last night on Laura Ingraham, I was asked about Democrat attacks on Texas’ COVID-19 response. I shared with her information recently reported in both the Houston Chronicle and Texas Tribune, as well as on the Texas Department of State Health Services website.”

“Not surprisingly, Democrat social media trolls were up late misstating the facts and fanning the flames of their lies. Federal and State data clearly indicate that Black vaccination rates are significantly lower than White or Hispanic rates,” he added.
“REMINDER: He’s the one who blamed last year’s covid surge on black people in Texas,” one Twitter user wrote about the lieutenant governor’s recent COVID-19 test.

Another tweeted, “TX Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has been accused of politicizing the pandemic, had COVID. Last summer, Patrick falsely blamed Black Texans for TX’s COVID surge, rather than the policies of the Greg Abbott and the GOP.”
