The search for a missing four-year-old autistic girl named Fiedwenya “NeeGee” Fiefe has ended after her body was found in an Indiana pond.
According to Fox29, police reportedly discovered Fiefe’s body in a pond located in the neighborhood that matched her description on Sept. 2. An official confirmation from the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office has yet to be announced.
“Despite the valiant efforts of our citizens, volunteers, police, fire, along with local and state agencies, the search for missing NeeGee has come to a devastating and heartbreaking end,” Plainfield police said in a statement. “We ask that the public please keep Fiedwenya Fiefe’s family in their thoughts and prayers and respect their privacy at this time,” police continued.
The four-year-old reportedly went missing in the Legacy Farms neighborhood on Sept. 1 after she wandered off from adult supervision. A woman who claimed to be her mother said a miscommunication led to the child going missing and that she thought the little girl was with her grandmother. The unnamed woman added that Fiefe was non-verbal due to autism and addicted to water. As such, Law enforcement issued a Silver Alert instead of an Amber Alert because the child had special needs and was not suspected of being kidnapped.
Drones, rescue canines, off-road vehicles, watercraft and sonar equipment, were reportedly used to search for the young girl, police said. She was last seen wearing a long pink dress or nightgown.
During a conversation with ABC News reporters, Plainfield Deputy Chief Joe Aldridge told
them that Fiefe had gone missing before.“She has a history of leaving the residence unattended, but they generally find her quickly and get her back,” Aldridge said the morning authorities discovered her alleged body.
He added, “The family, as you would imagine, is very devastated” and that they had been “cooperating.”
