A Roswell, Georgia daycare facility has come under fire after disturbing images of Black children waiting to eat while white children were served their lunch circulated, CBS 46 reported. Marquis McCauley is the father of a two-year-old who attended Kids ‘R’ Kids Daycare. McCauley told CBS 46 that he saw the incident occurring on a live stream as he was checking on his son, who can be seen in the still images.
“All the white kids got their lunch, and all the black kids had to wait. They were skipping all of the black kids it seemed like,” McCauley said. “From the videos and pictures that we saw today, we are just completely disturbed.”
The frustrated father was so upset by what he was seeing that he took to Instagram and posted a screenshot of the video and called out the daycare center.
He wrote, “This is truly unbelievable. You better know this won’t be the last time you hear from me on this,” he penned in a caption. “Why does every white kid have their food? Not one Black child has food in front of them! Thank God for cameras in classrooms because there is no way to hide this racism.”
McCauley said that in confronting the Kids ‘R’ Kids director he got a less than sympathetic response. “The director said ‘I’m not really sure because I’m not in the classroom, maybe it’s a dietary thing.’”
The concerned dad pressed the issue and finally heard from Kids ‘R’ Kids President and CEO, David Vinson, who posted an apology to Instagram.
“We apologize to our family, their friends and our entire Kids ‘R’ Kids community for the narrative that is displayed by the snapshot of a video from one of our locations. We are in contact with the family to again express our sincerest apology and to show them a video of earlier in the day and other days, where our inclusive culture is on full display.”
Vinson also announced that Kids ‘R’ Kids would be severing ties with the daycare facility in Roswell and would also assist families affected by this incident to find other preschools to place their children.
Roswell is a town of a little under 100,000 people. According to Data USA, Roswell boasts a population of “White (Non-Hispanic) (63.6%), Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) (13.1%), White (Hispanic) (12.6%), Asian (Non-Hispanic) (4.72%), and Two+ (Non-Hispanic) (2.03%).”
