Rev. Jesse Jackson was hospitalized at Howard University Hospital after falling down while visiting the college on Nov. 1 but has since been released.
Jackson, 80, was on Howard University’s campus to investigate student complaints about toxic mold inhabiting their dorm rooms.
After meeting with Howard administrators, Jackson was talking to students at the Blackburn Center when he fell and hit his head. Jackson tried to continue chatting with students, but his team insisted that the reverend be cleared at the hospital.
Jackson appeased them and was rushed to the Howard University Hospital, where he was treated by the staff and Dr. Wayne Frederick. Howard University confirmed the news of Jackson’s hospitalization on Twitter.
“We can confirm that Rev. Jackson was taken to the hospital by a university administrator and was later joined by Dr. Wayne Frederick. Our prayers are with the Jackson family.”
Sanita Jackson provided an update about her father on Twitter after the fall and noted that he was doing well.
“Family, he’s resting comfortably & doing well: we thank u 4 ur prayers! Fighting 4 u is what he’ll always do. His goal is 2 ensure the well-being of@HowardU students: #MissionAccomplished Rev. Jesse Jackson falls while helping Howard U student protesters.”
The civil rights icon posted a video from the hospital on Nov. 2, letting the public know that he was okay and was getting back to work. He also thanked the hospital staff for taking such good care of him.

Jackson persuaded administrators at Howard to search every dorm room on campus for mold and allow protesting students to return to class as opposed to expulsion. Students had protested about the conditions on campus on Oct. 12, prompting the civil rights icon to intervene.
