Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was reportedly killed after being struck by a dump truck early Saturday morning in South Florida.
According to FOX News, the 24-year-old attempted to cross an interstate when he was struck. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
His death comes only weeks before his 25th birthday on May 3 and one month after resigning with the Steelers.
In 2018, Haskins was a starting quarterback for Ohio State, where he led the Buckeyes to win the Rose Bowl. He also earned Big Ten offensive player of the year and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Haskins spoke his future into existence when he was an 11-year-old walking around the Woody Hayes Athletic Facility. He knew exactly where he wanted to spend his college years.
RIP to Dwayne Haskins. He said he was gonna go to Ohio State the first time he stepped foot on campus as a little kid. And he became a Buckeye legend.

He was drafted the 15th overall pick by The Washington Football Team in the 2019 NFL draft for his rookie season before signing with the Steelers.
Haskins proposed to his wife, former Michigan State University women’s basketball player, Kalabrya (Gondrezick) Haskins, in 2021.

Dwayne Haskins died this morning after being hit by a car at only 24 years old. He had so much life ahead of him even beyond the football field. Most will remember him as a star at Ohio State and NFL QB, but let us all send up a prayer for his family who lost so much more. pic.twitter.com/jL5abZ98Pc

My first memory of Dwayne Haskins – Nov. 28, 2016. Not the football player. THE HUMAN BEING. Locked down 3 hrs in a classroom, due to active attacker on campus. We’re freed & in elevator just us. “We’ll get through this tough moment & come out stronger.” – DH… That’s DH. ❤️💔❤️
