Relatives Say Fallon Harris Was Showing Signs of Mental Illness Before She Shot 12-Year-Old Son Over Memory Card

A Chicago mother, Fallon Harris, is facing life imprisonment after shooting and killing her son Kaden Ingram, 12, over a missing memory card.

Harris confronted her son Kaden about an SD card she removed from her car around 10:15 am on Saturday, CBS Chicago reported. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office said surveillance cameras in the home recorded the incident.

Harris reportedly demanded the SD card from Kaden, and when he didn’t give it up, she shot him. This shooting was not filmed, but there is audio footage. As her son lay injured on the floor, Harris answered a phone call before interrogating Kaden again. The state’s attorney’s office claimed Kaden was still “conscious and crying” when she approached him.

Once again, Harris asked for the card. When Kaden did not produce the missing SD card, his mother shot him again. The second shooting was caught by the security cameras.

After she shot Kaden, Harris told two family members she shot her son. The relatives called the police and her estranged husband, Lavell Ingram. When the police arrived, she admitted she shot her son and showed them a silver revolver, seen in the surveillance tape. She also told them she had concealed carry license.

Kaden was eventually pronounced dead at a local hospital from multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

“He was the joy of my life,” Ingram told ABC 7. “He was everything a father could want in a child.”

Ingram claimed Harris has been suffering from mental illness and talked to a therapist a day before the shooting.

“We didn’t know that this was going to transpire,” Ingram said, per The Chicago Sun-Times. “We had told her to get help. I guess it finally reached its boiling point.”

Despite their separation, Ingram insisted Harris was a good mother.

“His mom is a loving mom. She loved him more than she loved anything in the world,” he said.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Eugene Wood said other relatives also stated Harris was exhibiting “paranoid behavior.”

She was charged with one count of first-degree murder. If convicted, she faces life in prison.

Harris is being held without bond.
