Relative Of Emmett Till Demands Justice With Lawsuit Against Carolyn Bryant Donham

A relative of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old Black boy who was murdered in 1955 after being falsely accused by Carolyn Bryant Donham, has filed a lawsuit demanding her arrest.

The lawsuit, which was filed in a Mississippi court, seeks justice for the Till family and holds Bryant Donham accountable for her role in the tragic events that led to Till’s death.

“But for Carolyn Bryant falsely claiming to her husband that Emmett Till assaulted her, Emmett would not have been murdered,” according to the recent lawsuit.

The lawsuit continues, “It was Carolyn Bryant’s lie that sent Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam into a rage, which resulted in the mutilation of Emmett Till’s body into a [sic] unrecognizable condition.”

“But for Carolyn Bryant falsely claiming to her husband that Emmett Till assaulted her, Emmett would not have been murdered,” according to the recent lawsuit filed by Sterling.

According to CNN, last year, an unserved arrest warrant was discovered for Bryant at the Leflore County courthouse in Mississippi.

As previously reported by Newsonyx, the now-89-year-old woman was named in a kidnapping warrant that accused her, her then-husband Roy Bryant and her brother-in-law J.W. Milam in Till’s 1955 abduction. The 14-year-old’s body was discovered in Mississippi’s Tallahatchie River as he was viciously beaten, lynched, shot in the head, mutilated, and thrown in there in August 1955. Bryant and Milam were arrested and acquitted on murder charges. In 2007, a Mississippi grand jury declined to indict Donham on any charges.

“The Leflore County Sheriff is complicit in the trio’s escape from justice even though both Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam admitted to the crime,” the lawsuit continued.

“To this day, the warrant issued for Carolyn Bryant remains unserved. Carolyn Bryant’s whereabouts are known. This action is being brought in order to compel the Lelfore County Sheriff to serve the warrant upon Carolyn Bryant.”

The filing of this lawsuit marks a significant moment in the ongoing fight for justice for Emmett Till and his family. For many, it represents an opportunity to bring closure to a painful chapter in American history and to hold those responsible for the tragedy accountable.
