Houston rapper Bun B, real name Bernard Freeman is the owner of Trill Burgers, and his burger joint was crowned the Ultimate Burger Spot by Good Morning America on Friday, July 29. In Times Square, New York, Bun B competed against three other finalists from across America to come out on top. Lucky’s Last Chance from Philadelphia, Atlanta’s The Companion, and Babe’s Meat & Counter from Miami. 

For the competition, the rapper-turned-restauranteur served up the famous Trill Burger, a double patty cheeseburger topped with an onion sandwiched between two Martin’s potato rolls. 

The competition shook out with a majority vote from the judges of 3 out of 5 panels. The judges included Gina Neely, Tiki Barber, Jalen Rose, Titus O’Neil, and Sam Champion – TV personalities from celebrity chefs, athletes, anchors, and WWE wrestlers. Winning the competition gave Bun B a GMA title and a $10,000 cash prize. 

Bun B said, “It’s so surreal that it doesn’t make sense.”

, it’s not even in the realm of things that we would have imagined for this brand. We just wanted to put in hard work and be justified for what we did, and today we got the ultimate validation. I can’t wait to bring this burger to America.”

“For 30 years, I’ve put the flavors in your ear. Now I’m putting the flavor in your mouth with the OG Trill Burger,” Bun B finished, referencing his rap career as one half of the southern rap duo UGK, Underground Kingz.

Trill Burgers has primarily moved around as a pop-up restaurant, but it’s been announced that they will open a brick-and-mortar location soon.
