Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs was arrested on DUI charges early Monday morning after being found passed out in his car in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ Sports, the incident occurred hours after the Raiders won against the Indianapolis Colts. Authorities responded to The Cromwell Hotel around 4 a.m. after witnesses said they discovered Hobbs, 22, asleep at the wheel of his car in a parking lot exit ramp.
When police officers approached the rookie, they conducted a series of field sobriety tests, to which he reportedly failed, and they arrested him.
According to jail records, the 22-year-old was booked into the Clark County Detention Center at 6:38 a.m.
A jail official said Hobbs was charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI and expected to be released from custody. He has a court date set for May, TMZ Sports reported.
His attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld told TMZ Sports, “The facts and circumstances related by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to the news media leave serious concerns that this does not qualify as a DUI under Nevada law.”
The Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia said he and the team were informed of Hobbs’ arrest.
“We’re just trying to collect as much information as we possibly can on what exactly happened,” Bisaccia said, “and what the situation is and where he’s at with that.”
Though this isn’t the first time the Raiders have faced off-the-field incidents involving their players, Hobbs’ arrest comes just two months after former teammate Henry Ruggs was accused of driving drunk and rammed his Corvette into 23-year-old Tina Tintor’s Rav4, News Onyx reported.
Tintor’s vehicle caught fire, and officials confirmed that she and her dog burned to death. Ruggs faced multiple charges, including two counts of DUI.
The team has not determined Hobbs’ status moving forward after the incident.
