.News Onyx reported that Urban Outfitters (UO (a popular clothing store) recently released an exclusive 24-item capsule collection that five students from three historically black colleges designed as part of the retailer’s HBCU Summer Class of 2021.
During an interview with ABC 11, North Carolina native and HBCU student U’lia Hargrove shared her excitement while taking part in UO’s new HBCU collection.
“The main thing I wanted to get across was basically a little history of my HBCU, and some of its culture, including our fonts, our colors, and some of the slogans that we have on-campus,” she said. “It feels kind of surreal. It feels kind of amazing to be able to kind of be a spokesperson or to bring advocacy to their market of individuals who do shop at Urban Outfitters.”
The clothing brand plans to donate a portion of the money made from purchased items to each student’s HBCU.
