Serial non-tipper, TikTok user Büeli, shared that she was once denied restaurant service, leaving social media divided about her experience.
Büeli stitched TikTok user @africanbarb and talked about a time when she was denied restaurant service because her friend didn’t leave a tip during a previous visit.
“So yesterday I went to a restaurant with somebody that I love, and we decided that this time, we would turn our duo into a trio, and we invited one of our friends,” she recalled on the social media platform. “When we sat at the table, none of the servers showed up, and one of the managers came by and told us that they would not like to serve us anymore.”
The content creator continued her story, saying she asked the restaurant workers why they wouldn’t serve her and her friends.
“We asked them why, and they told us that tipping was a big reason,” she said. “Not everyone can afford to give the waiters a tip, and this should not prevent individuals from being served in the future.”
Büeli then asked viewers if they thought “this was a good enough reason to deny service to someone for the rest of their life, especially if the service is not always up to par.”
“I personally won’t dine in if I’m not planning to tip my waiter [shrug emoji]. That’s just me. I tip everywhere I go,” user @Gata commented.
“Yes. Servers remember you and don’t want to waste their time if you’re known as a non-tipper,” user @Brandon said.
“I tip based SOLELY on service. I don’t tip just because I’m ‘supposed to’ I don’t go the percentages suggested if I get amazing service. I overtip,” user @AmberEdge wrote.
“I mean, I was a server and realized that it’s the company’s duty to pay more,” user @Cay said.
Büeli reportedly told the Daily Dot that she and her partner had been to the restaurant she spoke about many times and even left a $20 tip the last time she went. She added that she always tipped servers at the establishment, but the friend in her story only tipped if her funds allowed her to do so.
