On Saturday, April 17, shots were fired at a 12th birthday party on the 600 block of Golfview Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana. Nine children were injured after a “verbal altercation” led to shots being fired.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, two groups of men, who already had ongoing issues, began arguing at the party where there were more than 60 people. The argument escalated to gunfire.

Police reported that two guns were fired in the incident; however, no one has been arrested.
Though there were plenty of witnesses, police are struggling to get to the bottom of what happened.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office has received tips, but Sheriff Mike Tregre said, “Not one person has given a formal statement. I am asking witnesses to come forward with information to help us learn more about what happened.”
That’s all good, but the hood’s “no-snitching” policy appears to be strictly enforced.
The injured partygoers include a 17-year-old who was shot in the arm; a 16-year-old grazed in the ribs; a 15-year-old shot in the ankle; a 15-year-old shot in the foot; a 14-year-old shot in the leg; a 13-year-old shot in the leg; and a 12-year-old shot in both legs. Two others, a 16-year-old who was shot in the stomach and a 14-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head, remained in stable condition.

Frustrated about the lack of advancements in the investigation, Tregre told Nola in a statement, “Not one person has come in to tell us anything on the record. I can’t proceed with the investigation that way,” he said. “I need somebody to come in and give us a statement.”
