Atlanta-bred national track & field champion Gabrielle “Gabby” Thomas dominated the women’s 200m race on Sunday in Eugene, Oregon, beating national champion Sha’Carri Richardson, who came in second.
Both women did exceptionally well, with Richardson starting beautifully and in first place. But, surprisingly, Thomas snuck up and stole first place with a record-breaking time of 21.60, exceeding the meet record and her personal best. Thomas is now the world’s women’s 200m titleholder.

Richardson finished the race with an outstanding 21.94, surpassing her former personal best time of 22 seconds.
Following her recent victory, the Olympic Bronze medallist took to Instagram to express her gratitude.
“It never stops feeling just as exciting!! Last night was a testament to months of determination, the amazing team I have built around me, and the talented women in the sport who continue to raise the bar,” Thomas posted on Instagram. “Another US title today, but I’m even more excited for what’s to come. See you in Budapest.”
Thomas’ latest victory came after Jamaican Olympic and three-time world champion Shericka Jackson held the title with a 21.71 score.
Despite Richardson getting second place, she will have another chance to take home the gold next month at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest with Thomas.
Richardson dominated the women’s 100m race on Sunday, landing her first national title with a time of 10.84 seconds. Her personal best for the 100m race is 10.57.
