According to CBS Miami, According to CBS Miami, Lt. John Jenkins Jr., a Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant, was arrested and booked into a Palm Beach County jail last Friday. He now faces sexual assault and battery charges for an alleged incident that occurred last month at the Police Benevolent Association Officers’ Ball.
Jenkins was off-duty during the alleged incident, but the information surrounding it hasn’t been made available to the public, NBC News reported. Miami-Dade Police Department Director Alfredo Ramirez III spoke for the department in a released statement,
writing, “As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard in society, on and off duty.”Ramirez continued, “Immediately after being notified of an incident that occurred off duty on April 25, 2021, in the City of Palm Beach Gardens, I ordered for John Jenkins Jr. to be relieved of his official duties as a Miami-Dade Police Department lieutenant. Now learning of his arrest, it has brought a sense of disappointment that is immeasurable.
“This is a serious matter, and I am confident that the City of Palm Beach Gardens Police Department will continue to carry out a thorough investigation.” Due to the alleged sexual assault and police ball taking place in Palm Beach Gardens, Jenkins was arrested and charged by their police department.

Jenkins, 50, now faces two counts of sexual assault and battery, according to CBS Miami. The Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant was also suspended without pay by the Miami-Dade Police Department. His attorney, Heidi Perlet, painted a different story in a statement, claiming that what occurred was consensual.
“Lt. Jenkins is looking forward to having his day in court to clear his name and reputation,” she wrote. “He has been committed to serving his community and has been a man of the law for 25 years. This situation involves two married consenting adults who have known each other for many years. Anything that may have occurred was consensual.”
Jenkins’ bond was set at $10,000.
