Meairra Mansara Shot While Out With Boyfriend After Ignoring A Stranger’s Catcalls In Atlanta

An Atlanta woman set out to enjoy a date with her boyfriend riding scooters on April 16. But things took a violent turn when a man pulled alongside them in a car and shouted catcalls at Meairra Mansara. When they asked the stranger to leave them alone, the unidentified man pulled out a gun and fired at the couple, striking Mansara in her knee, according to Atlanta’s CBS 46.

Mansara’s boyfriend, Juwan Davis, initially stepped in to tell the man to stop the catcalls, also known as street harassment. When shots rang out, both Davis and Mansara attempted to ride away from the gunman, but Mansara was hit in the knee, severely injuring her tibia bone. Davis had no reported injuries. Emergency services were called and a local fire department helped to stop Mansara’s bleeding until an ambulance arrived.

According to CBS 46, Mansara’s mother claims that she will need a permanent rod in her leg and has six weeks of recovery left before she can start physical rehabilitation therapy. An eyewitness to the shooting, Samual Savage, spoke with the Atlanta news outlet about how the tragic event unfolded.

From the distance I see someone go down…It was really heartbreaking she was screaming she was crying, and she kept grabbing her phone to call her mom,” he said. “It was really heartbreaking she was screaming she was crying, and she kept grabbing her phone to call her mom.”

Savage also wondered why the assailant couldn’t take no for an answer, asserting “It’s definitely a cowardly act to try and shoot somebody just because they don’t want to talk to you…Take your licks and just go on there to someone else…don’t take it out on someone who rejected you.”

No update so far on a police investigation of the case.
