The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) announced that their sole contender for MARTA’s general manager and CEO is former bus driver Collie Greenwood.
Greenwood worked for the Toronto Transit Commission—North America’s third largest transit system—for 30 years and climbed the ranks to become Chief Service Officer. He began working for MARTA in July 2019 as Chief of Bus Operations and Urban planning before becoming the Deputy General Manager of Operations in 2021, where he implemented the recruitment of new electric buses and railcars for MARTA. January 2022, Greenwood was named interim GM/CEO following the death of its former CEO.
Krauthamer & Associates conducted a nationwide search for a new SEO and selected 11 candidates with backgrounds in public transportation and other fragments of business. The Search Committee and its chair, MARTA Board Chair Rita Scott, reduced the number to five candidates. After interviewing the five, Greenwood was chosen as the best fit.
“Since arriving at MARTA, Collie has shown a tremendous knowledge of transit and capacity for leadership and innovation while always keeping the customer front and center,” Scott said. “His rapid promotion to second-in-command demonstrated his ability to do the job well, and his steady, skilled leadership this year has further demonstrated that he is the best person to lead us as we navigate a post-pandemic world and remark on a historical enhancement and expansion program.”
Although Greenwood is the sole candidate, MARTA’s Board of Directors must obey the state-required 14-day waiting period before deciding with a vote. Once they agree and confirm that Greenwood is their selection, they can officially extend the position offer.
The Board is expected to meet to discuss Greenwood’s nomination sometime this month.

MARTA’s Board unanimously voted on making Greenwood the interim GM and CEO after the unexpected death of former CEO Jeffrey Parker, who died in January from suicide after getting struck by a train.
