Michigan native and retired NBA star Earvin “Magic” Johnson gave back to Detroit residents in grand fashion.
According to Local Detroit 4, Magic showed up and out after pairing up with General Motors to donate food to 800 families. The food drive took place at Second Ebenezer Church on Saturday. The families received vouchers that will provide a 15-pound box of personal supplies, a 25-pound box of food, products from Avon, much-needed coats, a turkey and books.
Volunteers distributed the packages early Saturday morning.
“Let me just say thank you to all of you incredible volunteers who came out to bless someone else to be unselfish to make a family happy during their time of need,” Magic said.
The former basketball star took to Twitter to commemorate the charitable collaboration with General Motors.
“What an incredible day at Second Ebenezer Baptist Church in Detroit! We spent the morning blessing over 800 Detroit families in collaboration with @GM and @feedthechildren,” he wrote.
