A Louisiana woman was on a work trip in Atlanta when she surprisingly gave birth to a newborn son inside her Dunwoody hotel bathroom.
Victoya Venise was just weeks before her due date when she never imagined she would give birth to her second child in the most unusual way, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.
“It’s just really magical. It’s a story we’ll be telling for the rest of our lives,” Venise told FOX 5 Atlanta. “I’m going back to Louisiana with a newborn baby.
Venise initially thought she had a stomach bug since her 4-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the same ailment. However, she was shocked when she used the bathroom and realized that she was going into labor.
“I turned around, and it was the baby, and I was like ‘gasp.’ I hurried up, and I grabbed him out of the toilet,” she said.
The single mother of two told the news outlet she was in labor and had the baby.
“I found a towel, and I wrapped him up. I was sitting on the toilet, and I called my mom. I was like, mom, I just had the baby. I was like he fell in the toilet. She was like, `Call 911, call 911,” Venise said.
She and baby Rocky were taken to Northside hospital, and Venise said doctors and nurses were concerned about how dangerous it could have been for them. The mother and son left the hospital on Friday night, April 1.
Venise said she had plans to put Rocky up for adoption, but she quickly changed her mind after birthing her baby boy.
“I feel like the experience made me connected to him and made me want to keep him. So I’m going to keep him.”
While juggling a 4-year-old and a full-time job, Venise thought it would be easier to give up the baby. Instead, she said the life-changing experience taught her a lesson about underestimating her strength.
“It happened to teach me that you can do this. Even though im a single mom, you can take care of him. It gave me more courage and made me believe I can do this. If I can do that, I must be able to do a lot.”
The new mom said she was excited to go shopping for baby Rocky since she wasn’t planning on keeping him.
