An Atlanta lawyer, Courtney Cox, was murdered on Oct. 20 inside her apartment building by her boyfriend, Jarvis Jarrett. According to CBS45 News, Jarrett shot into other apartments while trying to flee police on the scene.
The murder occurred around 3 a.m. on West Peachtree Street at the Atlantic House apartments. Jarrett , 32, allegedly tried to escape using Cox’s balcony while pointing a rifle at police. He was
shot and killed by police on the balcony.Once inside the apartment, authorities found Cox, 31, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police were alerted by neighbors after a bullet fired by Jarrett broke a water pipe in the building resulting in flooded apartments under the 21st floor. SWAT and the Atlanta police arrived on the scene around 3:15 a.m.
Reporter Ashely Thompson was also live on the scene and posted updates on Twitter.
“A resident of Atlantic House tells me they have no water because one of the bullets struck a pipe. Residents being told to stay inside as police investigate @cbs46,” she wrote.
“Another resident across street from shooter location says he on his balcony when he heard noise. He says he made eye contact with shooter and shooter proceeded to shoot in his direction. @cbs46.”
Neighbors also heard multiple shots being fired and glass being shattered after seeing Jarrett on the balcony where he was later shot by police.
The families of both Courtney Cox and Jarvis Jarrett said that they are devastated and confirmed that the couple met last summer at the apartment building and began dating.
An autopsy will be performed on both Cox and Jarrett while authorities investigate.
