House Democrat Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) recently expressed that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas should resign following news about Thomas’ wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas’ email to conservative attorney John Eastman.
According to news reports, Bill shared his sentiments in a statement on June 16, calling the 73-year-old “a corrupt jurist.”
“Over the last few years, we have become numb to bad acts by powerful actors, but Clarence and Ginni Thomas have participated in one of the worst breaches of trust ever seen in our court system,” he said. “Clarence Thomas cannot possibly be seen as a neutral actor but instead as a corrupt jurist who has poisoned the High Court. Clarence Thomas should have dignity and final respect for our democracy and resign.”
Bill added that he read reports claiming Virginia was “actively conspiring with Donald Trump” to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
“Last night we read yet more reports that the wife of the longest-serving justice on the Supreme Court was actively conspiring with Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the election and overthrow American democracy…And while she was doing all this, her husband, Justice Thomas, was hearing litigation related to the 2020 election at the High Court,” he said.
Bill’s statement arrived a day after The Washington Post published a story on June 15, revealing that the House select committee investigating the January 2021 attack on the Capitol obtained emails between Virginia and John. Three people involved in the committee’s investigation said John played a key role in former President Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. The three individuals also noted that the conservative attorney tried to pressure Vice President Mike Pence into blocking the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential win.
Back in March, Thomas reportedly texted then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows during the 2020 presidential election’s aftermath concerning efforts to reverse the vote.
As a result of the Supreme Court Justice’s alleged actions as of late, the January attack committee asked him to speak with the panel. He responded, saying he was looking forward to having a discussion with them.
“I look forward to talking to them,” Thomas said. “I can’t wait to clear up misconceptions.”
