GoDaddy has ceased hosting a whistleblower site aimed at turning in women who seek an abortion in violation of Texas’ ban on the procedure.
On Friday, the company announced that it would not continue to host the anti-abortion site geared toward reporting suspected abortions in line with a provision in Texas’ “heartbeat bill” ban on the procedure, reported CNBC.
“Last night we informed prolifewhistleblower.com they have violated GoDaddy’s terms of service and have 24 hours to move to a different provider,” GoDaddy said in a statement.
The website was started by Texas Right To Life. Representatives for the group have said they would not be deterred and will have the website back up as soon as possible.
“We will not be silenced. If anti-Lifers want to take our website down, we’ll put it back up. No one can keep us from telling the truth,” said Texas Right to Life Director of Media and Communication Kimberlyn Schwartz.
For now, the website redirects to Texas Right To Life’s website.
The Texas abortion ban includes a provision that allows individual citizens to sue anyone who “aids or abets” abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy. If the overzealous canary were to win, they could be rewarded up to $10,000. The whistleblower website allowed people to submit tips on suspected abortions.
Texas’ abortion ban is one of the strictest in the nation as it edges toward the total reversal of Roe v. Wade. Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill in May and the Supreme Court declined to strike it down last week.
GoDaddy is not the only company that has stepped in the ring on the highly restrictive abortion law. Last week, Uber and Lyft announced that they would cover 100 percent of the legal fees of any driver who may be sued under the new ban.
