Georgia Newlyweds Ambushed By Gunfire In Gang-Related Shooting, Six Suspects Charged

Six suspects in South Georgia were charged with murder for shooting two newlyweds in their vehicle, leaving one to die.

According to the Albany Police Department police report, Antwan and Courtney Duncan-Penn were traveling inside their car in the 1100 Block of South Cleveland when they were ambushed by gunfire in a gang-related shooting. The suspects shot Courtney in the head, but she survived. Antwan succumbed

to his injuries.

While the police department only provided five mugshots, those charged were brother Donnellius Thomas, 22, and 20-year-old Zaydren Thomas; 18-year-old Nekhi Parks; 17-year-old Montrez Nex; 15-year-old Brian Massey Jr.; and 15-year-old Nicholas Collier. They are all known gang members and are in the Dougherty County Jail. Collier’s mugshot is missing.

Police announced at a press conference that mistaken identity caused Antwan and Courtney’s incident. One of the gang members’ family’s house was shot at, and they were looking for the perpetrators.

According to Sgt. Lataevia Jackson, the couple came from a family event.

According to Antwan’s obituary, he and Courtney

married in November 2020 and were only married for four months. His funeral was held on March 25, 2023.

“She was the air that he breathed and the sparkle in his eyes; and they cherished every moment that they shared together,” the obituary read. “Not only was he a loving and devoted husband, but an awesome father and great provider for his family.”

Antwan left behind five children.

Following his death, Courtney posted on Facebook about what it was like when she met Antwan.
