Georgia mother, Kaleshia Lyons, was recently killed by her ex-boyfriend Harold Dakers in a murder-suicide, leaving their four year-old-son orphaned.
According to 11Alive, the tragic incident occurred in Lithia Springs, Georgia, on Nov. 4. That day, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered Kaleshia’s body after responding to a 911 call. Authorities said the woman died from blunt force trauma to the face, as Harold killed her in the morning hours, Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds noted. The two shared a four-year-old son, Gavin, who is now orphaned.
Police reportedly received a tip about the alleged killer on Nov. 8, after he brutally murdered Kaleshia–a tip that prompted them to initiate a manhunt. Deputies spotted him heading into a woodsy area near North Lassiter Street and Villa Trave, where he unleashed a handgun before running away. After hearing a gunshot, the deputies then located him again, which led them to find his dead body lying in a creek. Authorities said it appeared that he had taken his own life with the gun.
Harold was previously accused of sexually assaulting the 29-year-old inside an apartment he shared with his mother in Villa Rica on Jun. 19. He was eventually arrested and placed on bond for allegedly raping Kaleshia and choking her unconscious at the Hampton Court Apartments. He was then charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and theft. However, he was released on bond against the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office’s wishes. When the bond was granted, the DA requested that the 34-year-old wear an electronic bracelet as he wasn’t required to wear an ankle monitor.
On Nov. 12, a GoFundMe was launched to cover the slain Georgia mother’s funeral costs.
“Kaleshia Lyons was brutally murdered Friday, Nov. 4, by the father of her child, who then proceeded to take his own life, leaving their child, Gavin, without both of his parents,” the page indicates. “Kaleshia was a beautiful soul and wonderful mother taken from this world far too soon. This fundraiser supports Kaleshia’s family with costs associated with her funeral, burial and care for Gavin.”
The GoFundMe page has since hit $12,050 of the $15,000 goal.
