Funeral Home Owner Gabriel Adkins, Where Andrew Brown Jr., Was Laid To Rest Says Cops Urinated On Property

Councilman Gabriel Adkins, who also owns the funeral home that handled the arrangements for Andrew Brown Jr., said that a Pasquotank County police officer urinated on his property. The incident happened on May 15 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, where police killed an unarmed Andrew Brown Jr.

A ring camera caught the police officer on video, and Adkins posted the footage on Facebook. Adkins said an officer urinated on his property the night before as well.

Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten’s excuse for the behavior is basically that the police officer had to pee and nature calls.

“Apparently, the Black officer in question was on patrol around 2:30 a.m. and had nowhere to use the restroom,” said Wooten, adding that the police officer relieved himself near an outbuilding behind the funeral home close to a field.

The businessman and politician told The Washington Post that he was furious anyone in the sheriff’s department would think that urinating where they did is acceptable.

“This is a funeral home. A place where we house family’s loved ones. I have lost all trust and respect for our sheriff department,” he said.

Andrew Brown Jr. was shot by the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office in the head multiple times while fleeing the police in his vehicle. An autopsy determined that Brown died from a “kill shot” to the back of his head.

Adkins believes the police targeted him because of his criticism regarding the death of Andrew Brown Jr. On May 17, Adkins told The News & Observer that he felt targeted because he’s lead several protests about Andrew Brown’s death at the hands of the police.

“Since this case with Andrew Brown, I’ve been out protesting,” Adkins said. “I really feel like they are retaliating back against me. Maybe they didn’t know I had surveillance, but it’s a funeral home…I’m just getting real worried I might be the next target, or they’re trying to set me up. On top of it being a crime.”
