Missing Fort Hood Soldier Has Been Found Safe

A U.S. Army soldier from Fort Hood, Texas, thought to be missing, was found days after being reported missing on October 7 after not reporting for duty.

Sewell was reported missing when she didn’t report to work and failed to answer calls from law enforcement, her superiors, or her family. Before that, she had been last seen around that afternoon departing from her on-post barracks. However, her reasons for failing to report were unclear, and the Army has yet to release any further information.

“Pfc. Sewell is a valued member of our team, and our number one priority is ensuring her safe return. We are in regular contact with her family and will provide any assistance she and her family may need to return to Fort Hood,” Lieutenant Octavia Davis said in a statement according to BET.

Sewell was one of the latest soldiers to disappear from that same base after several others have in recent years. Just last year, 39 Fort Hood soldiers or more have disappeared or died, including 13 of whom committed suicide.

The strange activity has put the base in the spotlight surrounding the abusive culture at the base.

Solider Vanessa Guillen also disappeared in April of last year and was later found mauled to death after being beaten with a hammer in the armory where she was stationed. According to a press release, the primary suspect in her murder was another soldier who was a “junior soldier” at the base and

committed suicide as military police attempted to investigate the matter.
