Antonio Dennard was shot and killed outside the Rodeway Inn on Sunday morning.
The 32-year-old former NFL player was at Legends Bar and Restaurant near Reading, Pennsylvania, when the incident took place, according to the Reading Eagle.
Jaciel Cordoba of WMFZ reported that Dennard was involved in a domestic dispute prior to being shot.
Dennard was transported to a local hospital by a private car and taken to surgery. The trauma surgeon pronounced him dead at 3:15 in the morning. It’s not known where the former football player lived. The coroner performed an autopsy on Tuesday. His death has been ruled a homicide.
Condolences were shared on social media following the news of his tragic death.
A GoFundMe was started on Dennard’s behalf by Sean Harris. The photo used on the donation site showed a picture of six children said to be Dennard’s.
“Hi, my name is Sean Harris, and I am collecting funds to help offset the funeral expenses associated with the homegoing celebration for Antonio Dennard. The funds will also be used for any additional expenses that Antonio’s 6 children may need. His Father is Johnnie Harris, and he is one of the most generous and caring people I’ve come to know. It’s now our turn to show him how much we care about him. All funds will be sent directly to the family.”
The former NFL football player was born in Chicago and attended Oklahoma’s Langston University. The 32-year-old man played with the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Giants for three seasons as a cornerback.
