Former high school basketball star Cameron Biedscheid was gunned down in St. Louis County on July 23, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Biedscheid was just 27-years-old.
The former Cardinal Ritter College Prep student was shot around 11 p.m. near the 6800 block of Champaigne Drive near his home in north St. Louis County. Biedscheid was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The 6-foot-7 Biedscheid was a high-school basketball star and later played for Notre Dame and the University of Missouri. Biedscheid declined offers from Butler, Duke, Georgetown University, the University of Illinois, Indiana University and the University of Kansas to attend Notre Dame. He transferred to the University of Missouri after his third semester.
Biedscheid also played with Jacksonville State University, Louisiana State University at Shreveport and Harris-Stowe State University.
His friends described him as a friendly, goofy guy, and his former principal at Cardinal Ritter Prep Michael Blackshear said that Biedscheid was also an honor student every single semester. He also said the basketball star was adored.
“He was adored as a student by his fellow classmates and teachers,” said Blackshear.
Condolences quickly followed the shocking news of Biedscheid’s tragic death.
RIP Cam Biedscheid. Just terrible news to wake up to this morning. Cam went from a 6’1 JV player at Ritter to a 6’8 star who was one of the best offensive players this area has ever seen. Silky smooth and Lord can that kid shoot the 🏀. Special talent. 💔

Cam Biedscheid was a tremendous basketball talent at Cardinal Ritter and was always great to talk with the few times I was able to back in his high school days.

Our program mourns the loss of Cameron Biedscheid – a young man full of potential who was taken away at far too young of an age.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Cam’s family and friends and former teammates. pic.twitter.com/hPg8P88woM
