Tinessa Hogan, a 36-year-old Black mother, living near Lauderhill, Florida, was arrested on July 13. She now faces two murder charges for the death of her young daughters, 9-year-old Destiny and 7-year-old Daysha. The two young girls’ bodies were discovered in a canal near their home on June 22, the Sun-Sentinel reported and were unsuccessfully linked to any local missing person reports.
The sisters were later identified by police, CBS News reported.
According to CBS News, Hogan was originally listed as a person of interest in the currently investigated deaths of her two daughters in late June. Lauderhill Police Lieutenant Michael Bigwood told the outlet at the time, “She was contacted by police, and she is not in the community right now.”
Hogan apparently exhibited a history of erratic behavior, according to witnesses. A female witness told the Sun-Sentinel that Hogan was in the canal shortly before her daughter’s bodies were discovered and allegedly swam over to ask if she could baptize her children. The Sun-Sentinel also reported that the Florida mother was
seen wearing a white blanket and reciting verses from the Bible on the day one of her daughter’s bodies was discovered.Related Post: Florida Principal Melissa Carter Won’t Face Charges for Paddling 6-Year-Old Girl
Soon after, she reportedly began receiving psychiatric care services from Florida Medical Center, a nearby hospital. She was arrested on Tuesday night and later taken to the Broward County Jail, where she is being held without bond, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Hogan now faces two counts of premeditated murder.
According to the outlet, she will be legally represented by the Broward Public Defender’s Office. No word on when Hogan will next appear in court.
