On August 21, Everett Briscoe, a New Orleans Police Department officer, was fatally shot while visiting Grotto Ristorante in Houston, Texas.
WBRZ reported that Briscoe was dining at the restaurant, seated near the patio area when he was shot by two armed suspects who arrived at the restaurant and demanded to seize their belongings.
Despite the patrons complying, one of the thieves still opened fire.
According to WWLTV, a colleague of Briscoe’s described him to be “One of the greatest guys you’d ever wanna meet. These suspects really didn’t know who they killed and what they took from this earth and a family.”
“He was a gem. He loved his community. It is really true to say that we lost a good one,” said Councilman Jay Banks, who knew Briscoe closely.

Houston police say the two suspects arrived in a silver/gray Nissan Altima with paper license plates.
Police are currently searching the area for the two men who were last seen wearing hoodies and black pants.
New Orleans Police Chief Ferguson penned a heartfelt tweet in honor of the fallen officer, saying that the force was praying for the slain officer’s family and the second victim of the violent act as well.
Ferguson said, “I am extremely heartbroken about the death of my dear friend and brother Detective Everette Briscoe, who was killed while off-duty in Houston, Texas. I am praying for the family of Det. Briscoe and for the family of the second victim in this incident.”
The second victim of the shootout is reportedly hospitalized and in critical condition.
