Media pioneer Byron Allen’s digital streaming platform, HBCU GO, has the first all-female broadcast team.
Lawrencia Moten, Nicole Hutchinson and Courtney Tate will provide coverage of basketball games from the 107 HBCUs in the country for the 2022-2023 season.
“Allen Media Group is proud to honor the 50th Anniversary of Title IX by featuring a first-ever all-female broadcast team,” Allen said, according to Sports Illustrated. “We are proud to amplify these powerful female voices and to provide best-in-class basketball game coverage from AMerica’s top HBCUs.”

Hutchinson will be the color analyst, Moten will be the play-by-play announcer and Tate will act as the sideline reporter.
In an interview with Amsterdam News, Moten, a 6’2″ former forward with the University of Hartford Hawks, explained how she was interested in the media side of sports during her freshman year at the University of Buffalo. She would go on Facebook Live to give viewers an inside look at her teammates, asking them and her coach questions. It was the field her father was in, Lawrence Moten.
“As a kid, when I went to my father’s games, I remember seeing no females at the media table,” she told the outlet. “That’s when I realized the lack of representation in the broadcasters, but I was so interested in it. I always knew this is what I wanted to do.”
Now that she is with HBCU GO as a play-by-play announcer, Moten is making history and showing other women and girls that anything is possible, even if it hasn’t been done before. In addition to reporting on men’s basketball games, Moten plans on being featured in Forbes’ 30 under 30 list.
“Having an all-female broadcast team will be awesome, especially when we’re calling men’s games,” she said. “It’s going to give viewers a more in-depth look. We want to shine light on the HBCU experience.”
