Detroit Teen Gains Attention And An Opportunity After Getting Caught Offering Haircuts In High School Bathroom

A 16-year-old attending Detroit’s Renaissance High School, Cameron Tucker, began cutting hair over the summer and soon turned into a barber in his own right, offering haircuts in the school’s bathroom, FOX 2 reported. After being caught running his barbershop service on school premises, Tucker reportedly

received a one-day suspension but ended up gaining much more after word got around about the young entrepreneur’s passion and skills.

Offering haircuts to family members and his fellow football teammates, Tucker was eventually discovered cutting a student’s hair in the school’s bathroom earlier this month when he was supposed to be in study hall, according to Fox 2.

His mom reportedly then received a phone message from the school stating, “We need someone to come pick up Cameron. He’s running a barbershop out of the third-floor bathroom. There’s [a line] in there, hair all over the floor. He’s got his whole setup in there like on the movie ‘Barbershop.’”

Though the teen was suspended for one day over the incident, he claims that several school officials told him that they “respect the hustle,” according to Fox 2. Gaining recognition as an up-and-coming young barber, Tucker reportedly soon after also

caught the attention of Sebastian Jackson, a celebrity barber to stars like Big Sean and former NBA baller Jalen Rose and founder of The Social Club Grooming Co., an upscale barbershop in Detroit.

According to Fox 2, Jackson, who also learned his barber skills as a teen, told Tucker that he could work alongside him to help hone his haircutting skills, saying, “I’ll tell you man, just based on the hustle, if you’re interested in apprenticing with one of our cosmetologists or myself, that’s definitely an opportunity.”

After connecting with the high-profile barber in person, Tucker reportedly shared with the outlet, “It was an honor meeting him. It was definitely a learning experience, learning where he came from and his way to where he is now.”

We can’t wait to see where Tucker’s talents take him!
