According to CBS News, a Detroit man who was charged in three deaths last year has had more charges brought against him for another murder. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced on March 23 that Jonathan Welch would be arraigned in connection to the death of 24 year old Natayla Morse.
Morse was found dead in an open field around noon on June 6 at the 4630 block of Lenox. Evidence was recently found linking Welch to the crime. Authorities reported, “It is alleged that on June 4, 2022, at approximately 10:46 p.m. Defendant Welch killed the victim with blunt force trauma. It is also alleged that the defendant took the victim’s vehicle to the area of Lappin Street and Beland Street before setting it on fire.”
Further steps towards investigating the details of Welch’s involvement are set to begin at the beginning of April, and until then the Detroit man will be remanded to jail.
Morse’s body was discovered only weeks away from Welch being charged with killing his girlfriend, mother, and stepfather. Zlayiah Frazier, his girlfriend, Welch’s mother, and his stepfather were together in his mother’s home when Welch attacked them. Frazier and his stepfather were found dead of blunt force trauma and his mother later died from injuries caused by multiple stab wounds. Welch engaged in a hours-long standoff with police officers before he was taken into custody. During the time of the triple homicide, Welch was out on bail for assaulting his at the time girlfriend after making a $100,000 bond.
The exact timeliness of the charges being brought against Welch in regards to Morse and the previous three murders are unclear at this point. It is suspected that Welch first killed Morse and then fatally attacked his family members a month later. A spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Maria Miller, assured the public that the full list of charges and the timelines of the involvement in both crimes will “come out in court.”
