A Detroit father risked everything to save his young twin daughters over the weekend after he and his girlfriend reportedly returned from a short trip to the store to see their home in flames. Rushing towards the house’s basement where he knew his daughters had been sleeping, Fox 2 reported that Ray Lucas sustained burn injuries while trying to ensure the safety of 18-month-old Malaysia and Milan.
“You really couldn’t see your hand in front of your face,” Lucas told Fox 2 about the frightening experience. “I really only found my babies due to my memory, just knowing where they were and knowing how to get to them, just from having that same route.”

Lucas also revealed to the news outlet that he could not work due to his injuries from the house fire. The brave Detroit father added, “I was temporarily blind for three days, and they said it was a miracle I could see. I’ve got burns on my arms, but for the most part, everyone is still here.”
As for Lucas’ baby girls, both Milan and Malaysia were admitted into a local hospital’s intensive care unit for their burns but have since been released, according to Fox 2.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was started for the twin girls along with their parents to help the family get back on their feet after the fire, stating, “Their house was completely destroyed. The family LOST ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IN THE FIRE. The father, Ray, is now worried because he cannot go back to work due to the extent of his injuries. Please help us to Bless this young man, the babies and their mother Shi’Ann so that they may secure a new home and restore and furnish a new home environment for the family to live.”
In a tremendous display of community support, the fundraiser has exceeded its $40,000 goal and now has over $250,000.
We wish the family the best as they rebuild and recover.
