On September 30, Knoxville Police Department found the body of Desheena Kyle after she went missing for three months at a residence in the 6900 block of Sam Tillery Road in Tennessee.
Knox News reported that Kyle’s family reacted to the devastating news, notifying the outlet that they hope to find justice soon. They also acknowledged the community and were thankful for the recognition given to the case.
“We weren’t going to let that happen. If it was not for the community of Knoxville helping to look for her and keep her name alive, as well as the news coverage, we might still be waiting for answers. We could not have done this alone, and now we see how much it makes a difference,” Kyle’s aunt, Rita Turner, said.
Kyle’s cousin, Shakita Turner, mentioned that the loss has still deeply impacted them despite knowing the truth of her disappearance.
“This has been a long investigation, and we are no longer wondering where she is. We found her and now demand justice,” she added.
Kyle was initially reported missing on June 28 from her apartment at 1307 Wilson Road by her grandmother, who was reportedly the last person to speak with her on June 14. She was not heard from or seen by anyone since June 23.

Over three months after she went missing, the Knoxville Police Department ruled Kyle’s case a possible homicide and soon after named her boyfriend John Bassett as the primary person of interest.
Kyle’s cause of death has now been officially ruled as a homicide, officials said.
Charges have yet to be filed in her case, and the investigation is still open.Bassett has been in police custody since July 7, after he violated his probation and also faced additional drugs and weapons charges.
Kyle’s family suspects that Bassett was involved in her disappearance and death.
