NFL legend Deion Sanders recently banned JSU players from leaving a Houston hotel they were staying in following Takeoff’s tragic death.
According to CNN, Sanders, JSU’s head football coach, prohibited his players from leaving the hotel after the fatal shooting of Migos rapper Takeoff, who was gunned down at 810 Billiards & Bowling on Nov. 1. Police said the shooting took place outside the venue, where 40 to 50 people gathered on the third-floor balcony for a private event.
“Takeoff was right murdered in a dice game in Houston–where we’re going,” the coach and former NFL player said in a video shared to his Instagram account. “So, that eliminates all y’all leaving that hotel, [b]ecause it ain’t happening until I give you further notice. So, whatever her name is, whoever she is, parents, everybody–[they’re] gonna come to the hotel and visit you because y’all ain’t leaving.
He also encouraged his players to make a lifestyle change.
“Sooner or later, we gotta start changing our addresses guys,” Sanders said. “That’s an analogy saying, ‘I know we’re this, but we aren’t that.’ We gotta leave that behind that we once did. And that’s what you guys are. Now you guys are Jackson State royalty. You’re 8-0 now. You’re not whoever you were a year ago.”
Takeoff’s untimely death shocked the world, prompting fans and celebs across the globe to give their condolences to the former Migos members and their families. However, Philly rapper and podcast host, Gillie The Kid, called some insensitive people out for sharing the graphic video of the musician’s bloody body in the process.
“Why every time something happen to a rapper or an athlete or an entertainer or anybody of color, the first thing you n***as do is pull your fuckin’ phones out, start recording, and post that sh*t on the internet, man?” he shouted in a video clip. “You n*ggas [are] clowns for that shit, man.”
Takeoff, his uncle, Quavo, and his cousin, Offset, famously formed the trio Migos in 2008. They’ve since gone on to become a platinum-selling rap group.
