The man who vandalized a George Floyd statue in New York has been identified as CSI: NY actor Micah Beals. Beals also uses the name, Micah Femia.
As Newsonyx reported, Beals defaced the bronze statue in Manhattan’s Union Square Park on Oct. 3 with silver paint.
The actor used a skateboard to ride by the statue and throw the paint on Floyd’s image. He also painted a white supremacist slogan on the statue’s base that said white “Patriot Front.”
Beals was arrested on Oct. 25. The 37-year-old MAGA fanatic was charged with second-degree criminal mischief for defacing the George Floyd statue.
The New York Hate Crimes division posted about the arrest on Twitter. Why Beals is not being charged with a hate crime is unclear, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office had no comment when asked if more charges would be forthcoming.
George Floyd’s brother, Terrance Floyd, spoke out against the vandalism at the time and said he was incredibly disappointed in the hate.
“It’s incredibly disappointing how the statues were defaced in such a short amount of time, and it just goes to show you how far we still have to go to reach our goal of unity.” he said. “The hate is still real… I want him to get what he deserves, but then I also want him to heal. Come over here and understand that we are not animals. We do not hate you. I walk around here, I could be hating police officers, but I don’t hate the police officers. I just know that there are bad apples in law enforcement, but all police officers are not bad.”
Beals was one of the people arrested on Jan. 6 in connection with insurrection at the US Capitol. Beals, who is from Grand Rapids, Mich., was
arrested under his stage name, Micah Femia, along with several other MAGA followers from Michigan.Femia appeared on CSI: NY back in 2004 as well as Parks and Recreation in 2009.
