Chris Paul addressed an incident involving his mother and wife, who was allegedly attacked by a Dallas Mavericks fan following Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday.
The Phoenix Suns point guard shared his thoughts on the Mother’s Day altercation after the Mavericks defeated the Suns 111-101, tying the series 2-2. Sources say the fan harassed and physically assaulted Paul’s family members during the game, ESPN reported.
“Wanna fine players for saying stuff to the fans, but the fans can put they hands on our families … f— that!!” he tweeted.
Paul’s mother, Robin, his wife, Jada, and their two children watched the game as they were seated behind the Suns’ bench at American Airlines Center. Insiders told the outlet that the fan reportedly put his hands on the 37-year-old’s mother and pushed his wife, and the couple’s children also witnessed the altercation.
Another source confirmed that Paul’s wife was followed up the aisle as she left her seat in the arena.
“They felt very unsafe,” the insider explained to the outlet.
On Monday, the Mavericks Organization issued a written statement and explained the situation involving the fan and Paul’s family.
“American Airlines Center and Dallas Mavericks security and executives have concluded the investigation into the incident involving the Paul family. Two unruly fans attempted to give unwanted hugs and have conversations with members of the Paul family on the public concourse of American Airlines Center. AAC security responded immediately once notified by the family, and the fans were swiftly ejected from the game. The fans involved in the incident will not be allowed to return to the arena until 2023.”
In recent years, fans have displayed
unruly behavior during NBA games, prompting the players to retaliate against the attendees. Last month, Kyrie Irving was harassed by Boston Celtics fans during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs, per News Onyx.
