Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot did not shy away from explicitly speaking her mind about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in front of people at the city’s Pride in the Park.
“F**k Clarence Thomas! He thinks that we are going to stand idly by while they take our rights,” Lightfoot stated.
Many pearl-clutching conservatives voiced their disapproval of the Chicago mayor’s statement. Most of them seem madder about the profanity.
Fox News contributor and Civil Rights attorney Leo Terrell went on Fox News and expressed his rage over Lightfoot using profanity to Fox News co-host Steve Doocy, implying she is inciting violence and proving the Supreme Court Justices need protection.
“She sent a coded message by using the ‘F word’ by saying, ‘hey, I don’t care what happens to him, I don’t care about his security, I don’t care about his safety.'” Terrell said.
He said that Lightfoot’s speech at the event was a scheme to distract people from Chicago’s crime.
In response to the criticism, Mayor lightfoot took to Instagram and Twitter to show how unapologetic she was about her words.
“I said what I said,” the posts read.
Lightfoot and her wife, Amy Eshleman, attended Pride in the Park.
Thomas has received a lot of backlash for being one of the justices to vote for the overturning of Roe v. Wade. He’s receiving more heat because he spoke about his plans to revisit contraception and gay marriage laws.
Many conservatives argue that the overturning of Roe v. Wade doesn’t take away abortion rights but, instead, leaves the decision to state governments. While that’s true, they’re missing the bigger picture. There are many states already with permanent bans on abortion in place and just need the overturning of Roe v. Wade to enact them, ready to take women’s rights to make decisions on their bodies away.
Furthermore, this decision will harm Black women. According to 2019 data from the CDC, Black women have the highest amount of abortions, 23.8 abortions per 1,000 women. Black women already face economic and healthcare issues, so they are forced to worry about health care access and finances whether they get an abortion or not. Abortions can cost
up to $750 without healthcare and up to $1,500 later in the pregnancy. And having a child means considering the price of food, medicine, diapers, etc.So, overturning the court case and leaving it to the states is the government deciding pregnant women’s fates.
