Two football clubs are battling to obtain Southampton’s midfielder Roméo Lavia — Liverpool and Chelsea, but he wants to join the latter.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea paid Southampton over $67 million for Lavia, who also had a physical done. Liverpool put forth much more than their opponent for Lavia on Saturday night, but he had already decided to play for Chelsea.
This came after Southampton continued rejecting the bids of Chelsea and Liverpool, standing their ground on their over-$63.7 million bid expectation.
Ultimately, the 19-year-old’s heart is set on Chelsea.
But the Belgian player isn’t the only one Liverpool failed to recruit. Moises Caicedo, 21, had a $141 million deal with the soccer club until the 21-year-old changed his mind and informed Liverpool of his intentions to play for Chelsea.
Amid bids, Lavia has four more years left of his contract with Southampton after joining the team last summer. The year before Southampton, the 19-year-old midfielder played for Manchester City.
Nothing is final, but soccer fans have flooded Lavia’s comment section on his recent post, begging him to join their preferred teams.
“Go the team who have better history and who needs a number 6 badly, and that’s Liverpool.”
“Welcome to Liverpool.”
“Welcome to Chelsea.”
“Come to Chelsea and play with the World Cup winner.”
“You’ll surely be s**t at Chelsea, trust me.”
“Lavia…[you] do realize [you] won’t start at Chelsea. Liverpool want [you] more than Chelsea. [You] will get guaranteed play time there, win more trophies and in general, a better club to be at.”
Chelsea has been searching for two midfielders, but Lavia isn’t the only one they’ve looked into. The club conversed with Leeds United hoping to sign Tyler Adams, but they couldn’t agree on a proper deal.
Who do you want Lavia to join: Liverpool or Chelsea?
