Welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford is an accomplished athlete who has yet to be defeated in the boxing ring. However, his 7-year-old daughter showed everyone that her dad isn’t the only talented person in the family.
On Saturday, Talaya participated in the 200-meter race at her AAU track meet at Northwest High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and lost her shoe as the event started. While the 7-year-old girl may have had a slow start, she channeled her athletic abilities and amazed attendees in the crowd, ESPN reported.
After Talaya circled back to retrieve her lost shoe, other competitors had already sprinted past her. However, the baby track star took the hiccup in stride and smoked her competition. She won first place.
The 34-year-old boxer took to Instagram on Sunday, praising his daughter for pushing through and winning the race.
“I just can’t stop thinking about my daughter’s track meet yesterday. She just doesn’t have a clue how much she just motivated me. This is the definition of not giving, heart and grit. She let it all hang out even when she was hit with adversity,” he wrote in the caption.
In the 51-second clip, Talaya’s family members can be heard cheering her on as she approaches the finish line in the 200-meter race. The boxing champ’s followers commented on the post and congratulated his daughter on her impressive win.
“Look at her stride!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Chef’s kiss!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾,” one user said.
Another user suggested that Talaya may not have realized how jaw-dropping her performance was.
“Bro @tbudcrawford, she doesn’t even know how impressive that really was… ✊🏾🔥🔥,” the user said.
“Super star already. Ain’t never seen nobody put a shoe back on and then win by that much in a 200m race 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾,” a third user said.
One user said the 7-year-old’s perseverance is a trait that everyone should maintain in their lives.
“Me and my wife watched it three times in a row, both in awe that she didn’t just get upset and quit. I think most kids [would’ve] pouted, cried. Not only does [she] stick with it and finish, but she comes back to somehow dominate. We should all have her grit.”
On Wednesday, light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo was seemingly annoyed after an interviewer asked him about Crawford and a future matchup against Charlo’s teammate Errol Spence Jr.
“I’m off of that Crawford sh**,” Charlo said. “Like stop asking me about him. Nobody ask me about Crawford again. He ain’t in my f—–’ weight. Y’all need to realize that.”
Last month, Crawford told ESPN that he’d be “surprised” if he didn’t compete against Spence for the welterweight championship. While fans have called for a matchup against the two boxers, Crawford revealed that he’d be open to a multi-fight deal with PBC to fight Spence.
“I’m free to do whatever I want,” Crawford said. “There’s nothing standing in the way from us fighting. There’s no promotion company that’s blocking it. There’s no wrong side of the street. There’s no nothing. Let’s see who the best welterweight in the world is.”
